“From the Partners to the C2C staff, my day is filled interacting with people who work tirelessly for kids in need.”

Kylee North is the Manager of Distribution & Progressive Partnerships at Cradles to Crayons. She has been with C2C in Boston for 2 years in this role where she works with C2C’s 300 individual social service partners.

What were you doing before you worked at C2C?             I worked for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mass. Bay for close to three years.  Before that I lived and worked in Belfast, Northern Ireland for 2 years.

What is the best part of your job?
Working with amazing, generous, passionate, dedicated people day in and day out.  From the Partners to the C2C staff my day is filled interacting with people who work tirelessly for kids in need.

What story about a child we have served has stuck with you most?
Last year one of our partners placed an order for a child who was diagnosed with a terminal condition.  The child was a 5 year old boy.  In the order it stated that this boy’s only hope, wish and dream was to learn how to ride a bike (and I quote) ‘before he passed’.  After word spread a tireless search began for the perfect bike for this little boy.  We had none in stock for his size.  The next day a friend of Lynn’s (CEO/Founder) stopped by for a visit.  Before leaving she walked to her car and pulled out the PERFECT size brand new bike AND it had training wheels!  She has no idea that we were in desperate search for this bike and yet, there it was.  A perfect match.  The order stated that the boy was a fan of Diego the cartoon and lucky enough we were able to pair the bike with a brand new Diego helmet and elbow pads.  It was a complete package!  The Partner came the following day to pick-up the KidPack as well as the bike and accessories for the boy.  Unfortunately, after delivering the items, the boy was transferred to a different caseworker and our distribution partner lost touch with the family shortly thereafter.  We never did hear whether the boy was well enough to learn to ride the bike… but in my head I imagine he was.

Where are you originally from? What do you miss most about your hometown?
A small town outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  I miss the salads.  In Western, PA your salads are full course calorie infested joy of a meal.  Salads come with your usual greens, but then… bam! French fries on top, draped in cheese and dressing of your choice!  It’s the most amazingly unhealthy yet amazingly delicious salad on the planet.  I could go for one right now!

What was your favorite book, toy, or outfit as a child?
I had G.I. Joes battle it out with Barbies on a regular basis.  The Barbies usually won as they were double the size and had a dream house as a base.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Anything Photography related, hiking with my dogs, kayaking

Describe what you were like at age 10.
One word…   Awkward!

If you were stuck on a deserted island and could only take 3 things with you what would they be?
A lifetime supply of sunscreen (what can I say?  I burn easily!), chocolate and a magically self-sufficient mini-fridge.

Thanks for allowing us to learn a little about you, Kylee! Stay tuned for more spotlights on C2C staff members.
