MLK Day of Service a Success

Each year, while millions of people take the day off, more than 100 volunteers descend upon Cradles to Crayons for a day of service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The late MLK, Jr.’s principles of service, selflessness, and kindness are what fuel the day, where people of all ages come together for one purpose: to help others. In past years, volunteers have helped to provide clothes, shoes, books, and more essentials to countless disadvantaged children. And this year was no different.

In just eight hours, 180 volunteers helped to sort clothing, clean toys, and package books, impacting a total of 1,986 children.

Because of their tireless efforts, the volunteers helped to provide kids with the essentials they need to stay warm and safe this winter (warm winter coats, comfortable clothing, well-fitting shoes and boots) along with items they need to learn and thrive (interactive toys and fun, challenging books).

Among the volunteers who gave up their day to help others included students from Bridgewater State University, the Rashi School, St. Thomas More School, Noble and Greenough School, Roxbury Prep Charter School, and plenty of families and individuals. Also lending a hand were Old Colony YMCA/Big Sister Big Brother, Temple Klal, Charles River Arc, and Metro Area Planning.

Thanks to everyone who made the day a success.
